Burning Man 2009 Time Lapse

Evolution (Burning Man time lapses) from Delrious on Vimeo.

I first heard about Burning Man back in 2003.   An aging hippie chick who owned a costume store was raving all about it to my friends and I.    While I'm not a hippie chick and my idea of roughing it is more akin to the Marriot vs a communal tent city....I have always toyed with the idea of going to this.  Maybe one of these years I will.

Just Because

The male form.
Idealized, conceptualized by the individual, yet all are strung together by a common thread of male essence.   Smell, touch, stubble, muscle, masculinity.
Is there anything more beautiful, more raw, sexy and lustful than a man?
It's the lips pressed together so tightly kind of kiss where you share breath, saliva and your teeth click as your tongues caress each other in an attempt to savor the man in your arms.
The male form
in whatever form it takes for you,
Is Art

The Man In The Blue Underwear

We weren't supposed to be going through my parents closet, my sister and I, but we were.  We had lived at 1763 Maplewood drive for less than a year and the house had these cool closets with storage above where you huhg your clothes, and we were exploring.  We never snooped for christmas presents, so I'm not sure what the motivation was but  I do remember my older brother had shown up strung out, acting sort of crazy, and my parents had taken him to a treatment center after a stressful and confusing 'visit'.

We found the magazine, pages askew, thrown against the back.   It wasn't just any magazine though, it was a DIRTY magazine and being the good little christian snoops that we were, we began thumbing through it to see what was what.

There was the stock fare of teats and vaginas laid bare for oggling.   I was twelve and unlike other boys  my age, I was completely repulsed by the pictures of women with their legs spread lewdly while they fingered themselves.  Gag.
It was pretty much standard porn rag material until we reached the vampire spread.    For about ten pages they had a vampire storyline going on.   A young girl in a neglige looking out a window, a vampire enthralling her etc. It was actually kind of artful.  Then there was a picture of the vampire laying in the bed with the girl on one side and another man on the other and things began to get interesting.

For three pages (yes I remember exactly) it showed the vampire having his way with both the man and the woman and I was mesmerized.  The man was wearing light blue underwear in the first few pics (until the vamp removed them) and I can still remember the feeling in my chest, my stomach and my dick as I scanned those pages into my mind.   I returned to that magazine many times before it disappeared.

Years later I found out my brother had left it behind, but I'll never forget the first rush of lust I ever felt....brought about by the man in the blue underwear.

5 People Who Hit It Big...In Their 30s!

So you're about to turn 30, or maybe you're well into your thirties, and you haven't become the success you always dreamed of?   I found an online list  (at geektyrant.com) which I had to share of famous people ”who were still clearly on their way up at age 30.

Some had found their path but hadn’t attained any success… some were in a completely different career… some were on the verge of giving up or had given up. But they all peaked after turning 30, found their true calling and hit their prime.”

1. Sylvester Stallone, deli counter attendant.

After getting no career traction as an actor in his 20s, Stallone attacked his 30s like any 5′3 man should: He wrote a movie where he was an all-American hero with unbelievable success in sports.  That movie was “Rocky”… he banged out the “Rocky” screenplay in three days, in between working at a deli counter and as a movie theater usher… and it launched his career with an Academy Award for Best Picture.

2. Andrea Bocelli, lawyer.

He’d loved music and singing his whole life… but didn’t really see (no pun intended) it as a career possibility. So, after school, he got a law degree at the University of Pisa. At age 30 he was working as a lawyer and moonlighting in a piano bar for fun and extra cash. He didn’t catch a break as a singer until 1992, at age 34.

3. Martha Stewart, stockbroker.

When she was 30, Martha Stewart was a stockbroker, no doubt learning all about finance and the ethics involved therein. Two years later she and her husband purchased a beat-down farmhouse in Connecticut… she led the restoration… transitioned into a domestic lifestyle… and the rest is history.  I actually met Martha circa 1992, and that's material for a whole other post.

4. Julia Child, government spy.

Absolutely the wrong career. At age 30, Child wasn’t cooking… she was working for the U.S. government as a spy. She went on clandestine missions to China and Sri Lanka (which, at the time, was called Ceylon) to get intelligence documents to agents in the field. She didn’t enter cooking school until age 36.  When I think of Julia Child I always flash back to Dan Akroyd on SNL, and while I haven't seen Julie/Julia but I definitely want to.

5. Harrison Ford, carpenter.

When Ford was 30, he starred in “American Graffiti”… which was a huge hit. But he got paid a pittance for acting in it, decided he was never going to make it as an actor, and quit the business to get back into the more financially dependable world of construction.
Four years later, he met up with George Lucas again (for those who don’t know, Lucas directed “Graffiti”) and Lucas cast him as Han Solo.

Now, in his 60s he's in a longterm relationship with Ally McBeal.  Go figure.

For a complete list....there were 11 people in all, log onto:  Geek Tyrant and check it out!

Today Is "Celebrate Bisexuality Day!"

And what better way to say "Way to go bisexuals!" than a celebratory 'snap' from newly admitted "bisexual" coverboy, Mika!

In an interview with the Dutch magazine, "Day & Night" Mika say's..."I've never ever labeled myself. -- Call me whatever you want. Call me bisexual, if you need a term for me."
And he goes on to recommend the label-less route for everyone else:
"There are ways of being a role model without having to always having to establish yourself with a label. Let's say if you're a 16-year-old guy, and you're not sure about your sexuality, you should be as free as you want...Having a role model who makes you feel like it's alright to do whatever you want, without the pressure of a label, I think that's a good thing as well. I think there's a million different ways to do it, there isn't only one. And I hope I'm right."
First off, excuse me while I gag.   Secondly, I'm about as surprised at Mika liking cock as I was about Clay Aiken.   However with all due respect to legitmate bisexuals out there, as one commenter on Queerty said the other day "'I have yet to meet one person who told me that they were bi, who isn't out as gay a few years later'".

I also have to say, in this interview Mika validates my point from the other day about younger queers eschewing labels.

Mika is talented with a huge pop appeal, however given how he defines virtues of a role model? I wouldn't recommend him as one to anyone...... let alone a queer youth.

Sorry Tina, We DO Need Another Hero

When you stop and realize that the gay rights movement is really only about 40 years old, it's amazing to see how far we've come.

GLBTs have battled against discrimination on the federal, state, and personal levels.   We've fought against those who called us abominations and a class of people out to corrupt children.   We have, as a community, fought against a disease that ran rampant through our ranks and all the while...each decade, each year, each day have managed to look fabulous while doing what we do as Out Gay Americans.

One of the main problems I see with the Gay Community today, is we lack cohesiveness.   When the movement began, we flocked to protests, rallys and demonstrations against the likes of Anita Bryant, and the Briggs Initiative (and eventually the US Supreme Court and a President who won office by villifying us all over again). When AIDS reared it's ugly head, we rallied against a common enemy and found our strength, our voice and our dignity.  We did all these things, and more, without a governing body of gayland.  We had no mayor, no figurehead, no vast organizational machine....and yet we perservered because of hero's like Milk, Larry Kramer, Phillis Lyon & Del Martin, Lawrence V Texas, and the innumerable queers who though their names fail to appear in any accounts, attended the marches, and lived their lives to the best of their ability...openly and proudly.

Where are our heros today?

I believe apathy is the enemy.   I read about present day queers "shedding gay labels", causes and stereotypes.   Assimilation has become the mantra, but at what cost?  Because life has become arguably 'easier' for today's gays, many have adopted the attitude of just not caring.

Of course the picture isn't completely bleak, we do have our notables.   A handful (maybe) of stars who are out and proud, although I can only think of Ellen as being the one who came out willingly.   There are a couple high profile politicians who are out as well but their first loyalty is to their constituents (or it should be).

So where are our Harvey Milks and Phillis Lyons of today?

The National Equality March in DC is coming up the weekend of  October 9-11, and it's going to offer a myriad of activist training workshops, memorial services and of course that big march and rally on the West Lawn.

Are you going to be there?   If not, have you written and called your elected officials to let them know they are also representing you as an out and proud citizen?   Have you donated to the cause?

Here's the deal folks...if we become apathetic, we're going to lose more rights than you or I could comprehend right now.   If WE don't care, who will?

Right now we do in fact need another hero..........will that be you?

No Time

Last night I made a decision.   I decided to change my whole approach to....everything.

Literally.

I've spent too much time waiting.  Waiting for that check to come, waiting to do this project or that chore.

No more.

My new approach is that I'm out of time.  I'm not going to wait to do....anything this week and see how things go.   I think if I tackle my day as if I had HALF the time I actually do....I'll not only get more things done, but I'll be left with more 'time' to enjoy the things I really love.    I dunno....I think it's worth a try.

So far today I've taken the trash out, done the laundry, done the dishes and a few other things.   I think I've wasted too much time in the past....but who has time to think about that?

I don't.

Have an amazing day....I gotta go.  I'm running late.
