It's Always Over So Fast

The abrupt end to Christmas never ceases to amaze me.   Preparations in my house as a child, and now as an adult actually began in October, and I think it was that 'getting ready' phase I enjoy(ed) the most.

The first step was deciding what goodies to make, and who they went to....and then came the lists....lists for the pantry, lists for wrapping supplies, menus, party, and yes ultimately the gifts.

It seems everything is built on the anticipation for the big day, the big moment, and once it's done....it's done.   Christmas is flicked off like a light switch, and I'm not just referring to the decorations.   The good will, the getting along, the stress fun and excitement  all seem to disappear as fast as you unplug the lights on the tree.

It's always over so fast.

This is so true. I love the preparation, planning and getting ready for the day. I already took advantage of after-Christmas sales to get some new decorations for my tree next year! Always thinking ahead. You're right--when it's over, it's over. Such a distinct line.

Precisely why I choose not to over-decorate, over-shop nor "over" anything. Keep it simple, easy, quiet. I find no sense in spending month(s??) in preparing for one single day of time.

It always is over so quickly. Kind of sad.......
I think it's good to have something in Jan or Feb to look forward to.

Make it last as long as you want Geoff. I won't take down the last tree until after the second week in January. If it makes you happy keep the sparkle and wonder of the holidays as long as you like.

I agree with Kyle -- make it last. The spirit of it at least, if you try hard enough, can last a lot longer than the traditional season.
